A series of unfortunate events (A bad beginning-Book 1) By Lemony Snicket

"If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be

better of reading some other book.
In this book there is no happy beginning, there is no happy ending and very few happy things happen in middle."

Dear Reader,

I'm sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.

In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.

It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

My Review:

As the title says this book does not contain Happy endings, It starts of with a awful event leading to more disaster, But no matter how terrible their life may seem they always manage  to get out of it way or another.

This book was so gripping I read it in less than a day, every page leaving me hanging. The Characters are well described Voilet is the oldest, the most responsible and great at inventing, there are great descriptions of her using every day things to get them out of trouble. Next is Kalus who is the bookworm, always feeling at home in a library. The youngest is Sunny, she's a naughty baby who has a habit of biting things, she also speaks in baby language throughout the book.

As always there is a terrible and evil villian and in this book it is count Olaf who lives in a old house in the city, He makes them scrub the floors giving them long lists every day, but he also has a evil plan (As most villains do) and the Baudelaire children must  stop before him is to late. I would not advise you to watch the film until you had read the book as it is a mash-up of all 13 of the books and give many spoilers.
